THURSDAY: Impacts from Post-Tropical Cyclone Arthur will move into the area starting early this morning. This will bring plenty of rainfall including heavy downpours that will result in several inches throughout the state. This will have the potential to cause Flash Flooding in parts of Mississippi. North Mississippi is included with this threat, but there is a higher likelihood further south for those impacts. We will also have a severe weather element to this system as well. While we’re not expecting a ton of reports, there is potential to get a few strong wind gusts and a brief spin up tornado as this system moves through. By the evening, a cold front will push into north Mississippi driving the system off to our south and east, but will bring additional storm chances including some strong storms possible. Very active day filled with plenty of rainfall.
FRIDAY: Rain chances will continue to be the story as we wrap up the work week. A line of showers and thunderstorms will develop over north Mississippi adding several inches to those already significant rainfall totals. This will pose another Flash Flooding threat for our area and a strong storm is not impossible with this system. Temperatures will start in the mid 70s and top out in the mid 80s so there will be some benefits from the rain-cooled air.
WEEKEND: Scattered showers and storms will linger in our forecast through the weekend. While the chances are there, we are not expecting those chances to be as widespread as Thursday or Friday. This will open up some dry windows of opportunity, but still pack the rain gear just in case. Temperatures will continue to be consistent starting in the low 70s and highs in the mid to upper 80s.
